How To Take Measurements

Use a cloth tape measure that shows inches, or you can use centimeters and multiply the measurement by 0.394 to convert to inches. Loop the tape around the part of the body you are measuring so it's snug fitting, but not pinching any skin. If you are not sure of the size order the next size up.

Determining Bra Size

Bras are sized using two measurements, band and cup. Band size measures the size of your torso, while cup size measures the size of your breasts. In the United States, band size is expressed in inches and cup size is expressed as a letter with 'A' denoting a smaller cup than 'B' which is smaller than 'C', etc.

To determine band size:
1.Start by putting on your best fitting bra.
2.Loop a tape measure under the pits of your arms and above your breasts.
3.Measure around your chest where your bra strap would go.
4.The resulting measurement is your torso size.
5.Bras, bustiers, corsets, etc. are usually sized in even whole numbers (32, 34, 36, 38, etc.).
6.Take the torso size and discard any fraction (for example, 33½ inches becomes 33 inches.
7.If the result is an odd number, round up to the next even number (for example, round 33 up to 34).
8.You now have your band size.

To determine cup size:
1.Lower the tape measure to measure around the fullest part of your bust.
2.Take this measurement and subtract your band size from it.
3.This difference in inches will determine your cup size as listed below.

DifferenceCup Size
Up to 1 inchA Cup
Up to 2 inchesB Cup
Up to 3 inchesC Cup
Up to 4 inchesD Cup
Up to 5 inchesDD/E Cup

The following examples may help demonstrate the application.
1.You measure your torso size to be 33 inches and the measurement around the fullest part of your breasts is 35 inches. The difference between the two is 2 inches, which according to the table indicates a B cup. Your band size would be 34 because odd numbers are rounded up to the next even number. Your bra size would be 34B.
2.You measure your torso size to be 33½ inches and your breast measurement is 36 inches. The difference between the two is 2½ inches. Since a B cup only goes up to 2 inches, you would be a C cup. Your band size would be 34 since fractions are discarded and odd numbers are rounded up to the next even number. Your bra size would be 34C.
3.You measure your torso size to be 36½ inches and your breast measurement is 40 inches. The difference between the two is 3½ inches which indicates a D cup. Your band size would be 36 since fractions are discarded. Your bra size would be 36D.

WARNING: Although the above procedures are fairly accurate, they are not foolproof due to the variations in the human body and in the manufacturing process of different designers.

Combined Sizes

Some items are adjustable or elastic enough that they come in combined sizes. These items should fit if your normal size is one of those included. For example, an item shown as a size 'S/M' should fit if you normally wear either a Small or a Medium. Likewise, an item marked 1X/2X should fit if you normally wear either a 1X or 2X.
